Is it just me, or do other adults find a full tank of gas to be an amazing feeling too? There’s something about going from empty to full that brings a smile to my heart.
Maybe it’s because I can remember routine gas station stops with my mom as a kid, when she’d put only $5 or $10 into the tank—just enough to get us to the next place we were going.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want to fill the tank up. We simply couldn’t afford to. I still remember sitting in the back seat thinking to myself, “When I grow up, I’m going to fill my tank FULL every time.”
God’s Faithfulness
Thankfully, by God’s grace, I’m now in a place where I get to fill my gas tank completely each time I need to. But that’s not a reality for everyone.
This reminds me of a recent principle I shared to love the life you have, because someone else would love to have the life you’re living right now.
My ability to fully fill up my gas tank has become a regular reminder of God’s faithfulness.
Mom’s Faith
But here’s what strikes me—Mom putting in those few dollars at a time was also an amazing reminder of God’s faithfulness, through every season of our lives.
We may not have had much, but Mom would repeatedly tell us, “God always provides.” And He always did. Every. Single. Time.
Mom would sometimes drive on fumes, and you know what? I can’t remember a single time we ran out of gas or were stranded on the side of the road. Mom’s faith wasn’t just spoken—it was lived.
Between Mom’s faith and God’s faithfulness, we always made it to where we were heading.
As we prepare to enter a new year, whether you find yourself in a place where your “tank is full” or you’re “barely scraping by,” let me encourage you to remember that one thing never changes…
“God is faithful.” (1 Corinthians 1:9)
As you reflect on the past year and anticipate the next, how could you point your children to the faithfulness of God—in your life personally or in the life of your family—this week?
