On this last post of 2015, I chose to write something for my boys…
I walk into the living room, a hard work’s day is done,
I’m greeted by the smiles and sounds of kiddos glad I’m home.
They run to me, they hug me tight, they say “We’re glad you’re here.
Daddy, will you play with us, the bad guys are real near?”
I drop my stuff, I crouch down low, as invisible bullets fly above.
I grab my gun, and prepare myself, to protect the ones I love.
A quick dash into the kitchen, I’m just hoping to stay alive,
When one of my boys cries out to me, “Daddy, you’d better dive!”
I take the lunge, and land real hard, about to break my back,
When finally, we’ve won the war… I love being a dad.
A man my age should never be, allowed to have such fun,
I’m amazed, they call me Daddy, and I love them, every one.
They look to me for more than fun. They watch my very life,
To see if I’m the same at home as when I’m in the spotlight.
They’ll never say it verbally, but they really want to know,
If the man that they call Daddy, is more than just a show.
I pray that I can show them, with my daily consistent ways,
That loving God and serving Him, is the theme of all my days.
I pray that through my love for them and greater love for God,
They will respond with pure obedience to both grace and to the rod.
One day when they’re all older, and have children of their own,
My prayer is they’ll know happiness, because they found it in our home.
And may my boys know I’m there for them, no matter come what may,
And may their sons call them Daddy, in that same simple, loving way.
Thank you for allowing me to serve you in the past year! Anticipating great things in 2016!
