Over the past 4 weeks at our home church, my pastor, Josh Beutow, and I, have preached through a series of messages on parenting called PG: Parental Guidance Required.

Here are some of the thought-provoking quotes from this series that I think will challenge you:

“Children need to know two things… That they are loved and that there are boundaries.”

“Rules without relationship equal rebellion.”

“The goal of discipline is not suffering, but teaching. Never discipline to punish, but to teach.”

“As grace-based parents, we are not striving to raise rule-followers, but Christ-followers.”

“The end goal of our parenting is not to raise well-behaved children, but to achieve the ultimate goal of changed hearts.”

“You can force your kids to follow your rules, but you can’t force your kids to follow your faith. That can only happen through heart change.”

“The greatest danger in our children’s lives is not outside of them, but inside of them – their heart.”

“What controls our children’s hearts shapes our children’s character.”

“More than your children will become what you say, they will become who you are.”

“If your love for God does not impact your choices, do not expect it to impact your children.”

This was a hugely helpful series for many families in our church. If you’d like to listen to any or all of the four messages in this series, you can access them via our church’s website links below, or simply search for ‘Grace Baptist Tremont’ in your favorite podcasting app.
